Useful Tips for Fire Damage & Smoke Damage
Open windows and doors, if weather permits
Vacuum loose smoke and soot particles from upholstery, curtains and carpets
Do not turn on any electrics or electrical appliances. Lights, TVs, Computers etc
Do not sit down on upholstered furniture. Cover with clean sheets
before sitting down on a chair
Do not try to clean walls and ceilings
Do not eat any food, canned or packaged or other food
Do not touch anything, if possible. Soot on your hands causes further damage
Do not send smoke damaged clothes to an ordinary drycleaner. They often do not remove smoke odour
Do not ask an ordinary cleaner to clean smoke damaged carpets, curtains or furniture. They often do not remove
smoke odour from them
Water Damage
Useful Tips for Water Damage & Flood Damage
Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting
with clean towels
Open drawers and furniture doors to help drying. Do not force open
Remove valuable objects to a safe, dry place
Remove books or magazines from carpets as they can stain the carpets
Water damage, if left unattended, leads to mold growth, which can cause health problems
Do not turn on any electrics or electrical appliances (especially
while standing on wet floor)
Do not go into rooms where ceilings are sagging with retained water
Do not go into rooms with standing water (especially if it is sewage)
Do not use your vacuum cleaner to remove water
Do not use items contaminated by sewage
